MISUMI Group Inc. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Arata Shimizu) today announced the establishment of the MISUMI Imprint Foundation to support engineering education, applied design and robotics programs, and industry-academia partnerships in the United States. The Foundation is MISUMI Group’s first corporate foundation, with a commitment of $2 million (approximately JPY 300 million, calculated at USD 1 = JPY 158.46).
Background and Purpose of the Foundation
Background and Purpose of the Foundation
The Foundation aims to address workforce challenges faced by MISUMI customers, its manufacturing partner network, and the manufacturing industry as a whole. As artificial intelligence moves from software into physical systems such as robotics, automated manufacturing, medical devices, defense, and aerospace, demand is rising across every role that turns a design into a finished product: not only engineers, but machinists, CNC programmers, tool and die technicians, quality control and maintenance technicians, automation specialists, and production supervisors involved in creating hardware that works safely and reliably in the real world.
MISUMI Americas established the Foundation to help address shortages in these roles and support the development of the next generation of builders. The Foundation’s first grant program is expected to begin in early 2027.
Three Grantmaking Areas
Three Grantmaking Areas
The Foundation will provide grants in the following three areas:
Area | Primary Support |
Scholarships & Access | Need-based support for first-generation and underrepresented students in engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain, at vocational, trade, and university programs alike. |
Monozukuri Education | Equipment grants for manufacturing labs, engineering team sponsorships, maker spaces, and student hackathons. |
Industry-Academia Partnerships | Curricula built around real manufacturing problems, internship and apprenticeship pathways, and mentorship and career support. |
Supplier Network Invited to Co-Invest
Supplier Network Invited to Co-Invest
A central feature of the Foundation is its Partner Network. Based on the view that the talent shortage is an industry-wide challenge rather than an issue limited to any one company, the program invites MISUMI’s global supplier network to co-invest in the Foundation.
-
Participating partners make voluntary annual contributions.
-
Participating partners join the Foundation Advisory Board, which meets twice a year to set grant priorities and jointly announce grant recipients.
-
Three participation tiers, Founding Partner, Growth Partner, and Community Partner, provide entry points based on each partner’s desired level of involvement.
The Foundation will begin its work in the United States, with a view to expanding globally as it matures.

Comment from Arata Shimizu, Representative Director and President, MISUMI Group Inc.
“For more than 60 years, MISUMI has supported the people who make things. The Imprint Foundation is the first dedicated organization we have established to support the next generation of builders. The Foundation is launching in the United States, but we intend for it to become a global initiative. We plan to extend this work across the regions MISUMI serves and into communities where manufacturing is beginning to take root.”

Comment from Dave Evans, President and CEO, MISUMI Americas
“MISUMI has spent decades supplying the components engineers design into machines, so we know exactly who builds the physical world. We also know the talent pipeline is too narrow for the moment we're in. AI is moving into factories, vehicles, and operating rooms, and that work takes engineers, machinists, and technicians — not just software. This Foundation is our investment in the talent pipeline the industry depends on.”
“You don’t change a system by moving all of it at once. You find the small lever in the right place and you keep pushing. A scholarship that lets one student finish a degree is a small thing. Thousands of them, over a decade, are not.”
Shaping the Future of Monozukuri through “MISUMI’s Digital MODEL Shift” Initiatives
Shaping the Future of Monozukuri through “MISUMI’s Digital MODEL Shift” Initiatives
MISUMI Group has been transforming Monozukuri processes through the power of digital technologies.
In 2000, MISUMI pioneered the launch of an online ordering service in the industry, establishing a system that enables everything from part selection to ordering to be completed entirely online. Since then, MISUMI has introduced a range of groundbreaking services, including "meviy," which uses AI to generate instant quotations based solely on 3D data, bringing tangible innovation to productivity across the industrial sector.
With its “Digital MODEL Shift” initiatives positioned as a core growth strategy, MISUMI now presents a new customer value proposition: RAKU-MISUMI, TOKU-MISUMI (Effortless engineering, greater savings with MISUMI). By driving digital transformation in design and procurement processes, MISUMI significantly enhances productivity at both design and manufacturing sites, while also reducing costs through optimized procurement services.
MISUMI is committed to relieving customers of routine tasks and empowering them to focus on creative, high-value work, transforming time into meaningful impact and driving sustainable growth together.
