MISUMI Group Inc. (Head Office: Chiyoda‑ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Ryusei Ono; hereinafter “MISUMI”) announced on March 16, 2026, that it has entered into a capital and business alliance agreement with Oishii Farm Corporation (Head Office: New Jersey, U.S.A.; CEO: Hiroki Koga; hereinafter “Oishii Farm”).
MISUMI has long contributed to the sustainable growth of the manufacturing and broader Monozukuri industry. With global demand rapidly increasing for agritech and smart agriculture solutions, MISUMI will further strengthen its contributions to this field by leveraging its core capabilities.
As the first step in this initiative, MISUMI will provide a stable supply of mechanical components to Oishii Farm, which operates indoor vertical farms producing strawberries in Japan and the United States with the aim of realizing sustainable agriculture. In addition, the two companies will promote joint research and development by combining their respective expertise and know-how.
Purpose and Rationale of the Alliance
Purpose and Rationale of the Alliance
・Growth Potential of the Agritech Sector
While the global food market continues to be valued at several hundred trillion yen, it is increasingly exposed to a range of risks, including extreme weather events, geopolitical instability, and shortages of land and water resources. In developed economies, these challenges are further compounded by chronic labor shortages, making improvements in supply stability and productivity an urgent priority.
Against this backdrop, the adoption of advanced technologies in agriculture has begun to accelerate, particularly in developed countries. As a result, the agritech (smart agriculture) sector is expected to experience rapid growth. Automation enabled by the introduction of IoT, AI, and robotics is making highly efficient and sustainable agricultural operations possible. In Japan, agritech has recently attracted significant attention as part of food tech, which has been designated as one of the government’s 17 strategic growth sectors.
Oishii Farm is a U.S.-based agritech venture that became the first company in the world to achieve stable, large-scale production of strawberries—traditionally considered difficult to cultivate—within fully enclosed indoor vertical farms. By leveraging cutting-edge technologies, including AI and robotics, Oishii Farm precisely controls key environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, lighting, and airflow, while also enabling automated harvesting. Through its U.S.-based subsidiary Fictiv, Inc., which MISUMI acquired in June 2025, MISUMI is already supplying mechanical components to Oishii Farm’s megafarm in the United States.
・MISUMI: Entering Growth Industries Through Digital MODEL Shift Initiatives
MISUMI has long supported the Monozukuri industries through the manufacture and e‑Commerce sales of mechanical components incorporated into production equipment and machinery. From more than 30 million standard components to custom-made parts for which AI recognizes 3D CAD data and provides instant quotations, MISUMI enables one‑stop procurement across a broad range of products via its EC platforms, establishing a Globally Reliable and Quick Delivery supply system.
By maximizing the use of IT and AI across the entire value chain—from order intake to production and logistics—the Company has continuously expanded its service offerings. Today, MISUMI is pursuing growth strategy initiatives known as the Digital MODEL Shift, which combines digital technology with manufacturing, and is rapidly introducing digital services that fundamentally transform customers’ traditional design and procurement processes.
Furthermore, beginning in 2025, MISUMI has expanded its business domain into the product development field, which encompasses components incorporated into end products. Fictiv, Inc., a U.S.-based company headquartered in California with an advanced manufacturing platform, primarily serves customers in this product development domain. Its customer base has been expanding across high-growth sectors such as humanoid robotics, aerospace, energy, logistics, healthcare, and, most recently, smart agriculture.
Details of the Alliance
Details of the Alliance
Under this capital and business alliance, MISUMI will make an equity investment in Oishii Farm, a company dedicated to realizing next‑generation smart agriculture. In parallel, MISUMI will support Oishii Farm’s growth by supplying MISUMI products through its “Globally Reliable and Quick Delivery” capabilities, while also promoting joint research and development that leverages the respective strengths and know‑how of both companies.
Specifically, MISUMI will provide a stable supply of components for a wide range of factory units and related equipment to be installed at Oishii Farm’s Open Innovation Center, currently under construction in Hamura City, Tokyo, as well as at farms that are under construction or planned for future development. Through this support, MISUMI will contribute to the stable operation and scalable expansion of Oishii Farm’s business.
In addition, by combining MISUMI’s strengths in general‑purpose technologies and standardization with Oishii Farm’s deep, industry‑specific expertise, the two companies will jointly conduct research and development of components for agricultural automation. Products created through these initiatives are expected to support the global agritech sector going forward.
MISUMI views this alliance as a model case and will continue to expand its value proposition within the rapidly growing agritech field.
